 Frequently Asked Questions

What is a life coach?
A life coach is someone who listens, encourages, and helps guide an individual to reach their goals. Life coaches assist people in identifying their problem areas and work with them in establishing strategies to move ahead. Coaches focus on helping the individual move forward.

How is a life coach different from an LPC or a therapist?
A counselor or therapist will meet the individual where they are and work backward to discover why things are the way that they are. A life coach meets the individual where they are and helps the individual discover ways to move forward.

Why hire a life coach?
Life coaches can help you see where you want to go, and assist you in getting there. Coaches use tools and strategies that help the individual focus on outcome and achievement in many different areas, including: physically, emotionally, spiritually, and relationally.

What takes place in a coaching session?
Each session is built from the previous session as we review the actions and progress made,

and look ahead to continue planning the path to purpose. We will discuss any obstacles that were faced and strategies to overcome those obstacles. We will end the sessions with action steps to consider and occasionally homework and reflection will be necessary for the next session.

Where does coaching take place?
The first initial consultation can take place over a phone call. After that, coaching can take place either electronically over ZOOM or TEAMS, or in a public setting such as a restaurant or coffee shop. The preference is completely up to the individual.

How long is a typical coaching session?
At Plans and Purpose, the typical coaching session is 50-60 minutes. Sessions are weekly and plans can range from week to week to three months, depending on the individual’s need.

What is the cost? Do you accept insurance?
Investing in your mental health is important. Therefore, coaching costs are affordable and vary depending on the coaching plan and type of coaching required. Many insurance plans do not cover life coaching; therefore we do not accept health insurance.
